Healthcare Is Broken. Neighbors Step In.
High copays. Insurance denials. Long waits. Underinsurance. No insurance. Supply chain shortages.
Too often, people cannot get the equipment they need to recover, remain independent, or care for a loved one. Families already under stress are forced to wait, pay out of pocket, or go without.
That is where STLHELP steps in.
When healthcare systems fail, neighbors help neighbors. Give Today
Real Local Impact
In 2024, STLHELP provided more than $2,058,692 worth of free home medical equipment to local individuals and families.
More than 2,600 people were helped.
198 tons of usable equipment were diverted from area landfills and placed into the hands of people who needed it.
Meet Hardison, Age 4
Hardison has epilepsy.
His grandmother shared:
“My grandson is much happier and mobile. His safety is going to be so much better by having this equipment. We can put him in his new high chair and feel at ease he is safe.”
For one family, the right equipment meant safety, mobility, and peace of mind.
Sometimes one piece of equipment changes everything.
Helping an Aging Population
More than 70% of those served by STLHELP are age 65 or older.
Many older adults struggle to access the equipment they need to remain safe at home.
“STLHELP makes people safer,” said healthcare professional Courtney Davis. “Their equipment prevents falls and improves quality of life. They can now actually take a shower!”
What Recipients Say
Children with Special Needs Need HELP Too
We help children who slip through the cracks.
STLHELP works with families, caregivers, school nurses, therapists, case managers, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers to provide children with the equipment they need — at no cost.
Because every child deserves the chance to move, grow, and be part of life.
Be Part of the Solution
Donate equipment. Give financially. Share our mission.
When healthcare is broken, neighbors still show up.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors During a Health Care Crisis
When health care systems delay, deny, or overwhelm families, neighbors step in.
That is what St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program (STLHELP) has done since 2008.
We collect donated wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, hospital beds, pediatric equipment, and more. We inspect, repair, clean, and provide it free of charge to local people who need help now.
No red tape. No long waits. No fees.
Because when someone is trying to heal, regain mobility, or care for a loved one, waiting is not good enough.
