Supporting CRCSTL's Student-Led Peer Mediation (SLPM) helps St. Louis teens become peacebuilders in their community today, establishing much needed calm for themselves and their peers. Department of Education research tells us that peer mediation works. Schools with peer mediation programming saw a 90% reduction in assaults, 73% discipline reduction, and a 57% drop in expulsion rates.
The beginnings of this work have been funded by the Mental Health Board and the Children’s Service Fund, but SLPM needs to reach more students and can’t do this without your help!
CRCSTL provides the training and technical assistance necessary for schools to fully implement the program and offers ongoing support as needed. Training peer mediators to serve in their respective schools keeps student issues at a student level and prioritizes restorative justice over punishment. SLPM in schools also offers the innovative opportunity to establish and improve healthy communication between families and schools.
Donating today helps SLPM students become future leaders, gain best listening skills, use creative problem solving, navigate interpersonal issues, learn to stay calm and express feelings, and help others express their feelings.
SLPM builds for the future. This training stays with them for a lifetime, creating mindful, connected, caring individuals who will be able to apply these skills in every facet of their lives.
