Lets throw a book party!

Roughly twelve years ago, I volunteered at a "Book Party" where I had the pleasure of helping a little guy who was just learning how to read pick out a few books to take home with him. I found the experience to be both saddening and heartwarming at the same time. After picking out his books, I said "let me help you put those in your bag so you can carry them home easier." He looked up at me with pure wonder and said "I get to take these home, I've never had books of my very own before?" I was not prepared to think about the fact that there are littles out there who don't have books at home. 

A few years ago when the opportunity to join the board of Books for STL Kids presented it's self I jumped at the opportunity.  

The mission of our small but mighty 100% volunteer run organisation is to inspire a love of reading by increasing access to new books for children in under resourced families.  Seeing children pick out new books to take home is incredibly rewarding and their excitement is contagious.  

I'm raising money this year as a part of Give STL Day; a 24 hour online day of giving for non profits in the St. Louis region.  Early giving started on April 23rd, and will culminate on May 8th.
