Kathi Chaney & Tammy Schuster Shelter Slumber Pawty

This dynamic duo has been blessed with an everlasting friendship based on similar values and beliefs. One of the activities they enjoy doing together is volunteering; and their love for dogs brought them to Five Acres Animal Shelter (5A).  But now, Kathi and Tammy are in the doghouse, and it is for all the right reasons!

On April 6, Kathi and Tammy will be spending the night in the doghouse--literally--at Five Acre for a Slumber Pawty! That night and the next morning, we will be calling upon our friends and family to help us raise $1,500 for the dogs and cats at Five Acres Animal Shelter. During the Slumber Pawty, we plan to Facebook live-stream as a FUN way to encourage you to donate to this important cause.  Some fun activities planned include:

  • Fashion Show/Photo Shoot: See the dogs model some of the darling clothes from the 5A Gift Shop.  Donations collected during the fashion show will be doubled (up to $100 total match).
  • Dog Karaoke: Watch as we perform “Who Let the Dogs Out”, “How Much is that Doggie”, or other dog themed songs.  Our goal is to raise $200 during our karaoke hour.
  • Spa Time:  Pups will have special spa time. Watch as we pamper the pooches during this hour. The highest donation this hour will receive a spa inspired gift basket.  (Local donors only please)
  • Cuddle Break:  All donations collected during the cuddle break hour will be entered into a raffle for a fuzzy “Adopt Me” blanket so that you can cuddle up with your furry pal.
  • Donuts for Dogs.  Who doesn’t like to wake up to donuts!  All donations received in this hour will be entered into a drawing for $25 donut gift certificate.
  • Sweet Deal! Local donations of $75 or more, collected during the cookie break hour, will be offered delivery of one dozen home-baked chocolate chip cookies.
  • Plus more pawty ideas to follow!

Feel free to donate to Five Acres from this website link, or direct donations to either Kathi or Tammy. We will make sure your donation is added to our fundraiser. Your donations can start anytime -- now through the end of the Slumber Pawty.  If you want to wait until the Slumber Pawty, we will be starting Saturday, April 6 around 3pm CT through Sunday, April 7 at 9am CT.

Each donor will receive a paw/handwritten thank you card.  That should be reason enough to donate! WOOF!

Thank you in advance for your support as we raise money for our furry friends. As many of you know, both Kathi (Naruto) and Tammy (Reese) have adopted from rescues and so have our children. 5A has been a wonderful organization for us to volunteer and we feel good about our efforts that help dogs at 5A find their furever homes.  While they wait for that day at the shelter, we hope to make them feel special (even if it’s just for one night) while pawty’ing with us at the April 6 Slumber Pawty.

A little bit about the original Slumber Pawty:

In 2017, Gateway Pet Guardians (GPG), located near St. Louis, MO, hosted the first Shelter Slumber Pawty. GPG asked staff and volunteers to spend 24 hours in kennels living side-by-side with shelter dogs while asking for donations. The entire event was live-streamed on social media, giving the public a glimpse into the lives of shelter animals. By the time the 24-hour Pawty was over, the team had raised over $30,000! The Shelter Slumber Pawty expanded in 2019 when 17 St. Louis area organizations came together to raise much-needed funds for the community.  In 2023, the first-ever International Shelter Slumber Pawty brought together over 40 shelters from four countries who collectively raised over $600,000 (from Gateway Pet Guardians website).
