Hello and welcome to my fundraiser!
This year for Give STL Day, I’m raising funds to support the African People’s Education & Defense Fund (APEDF), who is building the Black Power Blueprint in north St. Louis, Missouri. As part of this project, they are constructing the African Independence Workforce Program (AIWP) to provide training, meaningful employment and entrepreneurship skills for people returning from the prison system and others who have been excluded from economic life.
AIWP is different from other workforce programs because it is led by and for the African/Black working class community and is centered on developing the skills talents and interests of each person and building their ability to contribute to commerce that benefits the entire black community and all oppressed and colonized peoples, not just to work for someone else. This is not just another re-entry program, it’s part of the African liberation strategy.
The main project that we are fundraising for currently is the Buy Black Power Retail Space, which will host economic development institutions including: NZO: African Styles at Home and Abroad, UZI: Thread of Freedom, and Uhuru Planet: Reparations Apparel.
The programs that APEDF is leading provide a way forward, in the real world, to end the poverty, homelessness, mass imprisonment, poor health and shortened life expectancy that plague African communities throughout this country and world and set in motion the creation of a positive future led by African people that benefits everyone!
Join us for a special event streaming live from the new Buy Black Power Retail Space on May 8th (Give STL Day) at 7:30pm ET. Register at tinyurl.com/GiveSTLDayAIWP
