Partners for Just Trade

A nonprofit organization

PJT works with artisan groups in Peru, Cambodia and Haiti. Our artisans hand-craft a wide range of products, including hand-knit stuffed animals, silver jewelry, bags, accessories, ornaments, nativities, and metal art.

PJT works with our partners to:
-Respect the traditions and cultural identity of all people
-Educate consumers on issues of justice and environmental and social responsibility in global trade
-Educate producers about quality production, economic development, democratic and cooperative management, small business development and environmental responsibility
-Create, expand and sustain economic opportunities for fairly-traded goods produced by marginalized people

Our goal is to benefit the artisans we work with, not maximize profits. By reducing the number of middlemen and minimizing overhead costs, we return up to 40 percent of the retail price of an item to the producer. We encourage the artisan groups to reinvest their profits into their communities. Many producers who work with Fair Trade Organizations have committed time and money to build health clinics and support other community projects in their villages.

Mission

Partners for Just Trade is a non-profit, faith-based organization that builds partnerships between producers living in extreme poverty and consumers in North America. We address root causes of poverty through education, Fair Trade sales, solidarity, and a commitment to trade justice.
