Suzuki Harmony STL wants to empower young people, particularly in under-resourced areas of St. Louis, to pursue music as a means of social and emotional growth. Through private and group music instruction, we teach skills like perseverance, goal-setting, resilience, and tenacity, which are skills that go far beyond music and seep into all areas of life. We prioritize relationship and community and encourage our students to learn from and encourage one another. Through our group classes, students learn music theory and how to improvise and compose music, while also learning how to listen to each other and play as a whole; teamwork rather than just focusing on the individual is the goal. Our students are able to give back to the community through free public performances and regular recitals. We seek to change the narrative about who plays and composes classical music by providing opportunities for our students to shine and be leaders.
