St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired

A nonprofit organization

Founded in 1911, St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SLSBVI) has been serving our region for more than 114 years! Your Give STL Day donation supports our provision of services to more than 1,300 people each year.  Each SLSBVI client receives access to comprehensive services including low vision medical care, occupational therapy, orientation and mobility and assistive technology to aid in daily function, social work and support groups, transportation, and access to even more community resources. These services are combined and delivered through an individualized approach that is designed with the client to achieve personal goals of independence and wellbeing despite vision loss.

More than 175,000 older adults across Missouri and Illinois report severe vision loss, making the need for SLSBVI services considerable. Whether navigating age-related vision loss from macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or from stroke or other trauma, SLSBVI remains steadfast in delivering services crucial to function and independence for our clients.

Thank you for sharing in our vision: a community where vision loss is not a barrier to a full life!
