GHSP is a 100% volunteer organization. WE build ramps and do minor home repairs (such as grab bar installations) for people in need. WE include youth and adult volunteers along with skilled carpenters for our ramp builds. We also partner with Washington University School of Medicine - Program in Occupational Therapy as a field work site for their graduate OT students. In 2023 we did 34 home evaluations, built 30 ramps, and welcomed 264 volunteers who worked a total of 1,373 hours! We've grown steadily since our inception in 2017 and have built 119 ramps over the past 6 years. A note from our Executive Director: Each year I am surprised to see how many individuals struggle with the lack of accessibility in and out of their own house. While a few are fortunate enough to have the help of family and friends, some do not. The worry of not being able to get out of the house if there is a fire is all too real for so many. Most homes were not built with accessibility in mind, and just one step can take away one's independence. The inability to get out for doctor's visits and treatments also lessens the chance of physical and mental well-being. While affordable resources for ramps and power lifts are few, most health insurance will not cover the cost of renting a ramp or having one built. GHSP has been so blessed by so many! Through the donations of time and money, we have been able to provide79 ramps over the past 5 years. There is nothing better than
seeing the smile of someone that can independently move in and out of their own home with a ramp GHSP volunteers just built. Without the help of so many generous
individuals, none of this would be possible!
