Prism Autism Academy

Prism Autism Academy will build a new school, paired with carefully constructed programs to accommodate the growing population of youth and adults with autism. Prism will offer a unique, autism-friendly environment in St. Charles County, Missouri offering functional skills curricula and educational supports for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Our innovative education programs will focus on functional academics, life skills and vocation skills in preparation for transition to adulthood. Prism Autism Academy will prepare learners based on their needs and abilities and make generalizing skills to real life settings a priority and provide meaningful opportunities for college education, independent living and career opportunities.

We are raising funds to begin development of Prism Autism Academy within the next year. Why build? We have learned through years of research, that building design and development play an incredibly important role in improving learning environments for people with autism. The need for specially designed schools that accommodate the specific needs of students with ASD is growing. We will follow architectural principles that are intended to foster social interaction among peers, improve independent navigation skills, provide visual cues and boundaries within the environment, and mediate the sensory perception issues that individuals with ASD face. Prism will follow design principles based on, lighting, acoustics, colors and patterns, flexibility, transitions, predictability, environmental stimuli, safety, and durability. Our autism friendly design will unify the building and educational programs, while creating an environment for social connections, support systems and networks that will make independence possible.
