LitShop brings hands-on building and making workshops to girls and gender expansive youth ages 10-18 in St Louis. We pair hands-on making and building, like carpentry, woodworking, or printmaking, with engaging literacy opportunities, like writing workshops, book clubs, or podcasting. LitShop youth use real tools and real materials to build the world they want to see and tell the stories they want to tell.
Imagine a young woman who can not only identify a problem in her community but has the skills and confidence to design and build a solution. Imagine her entering male-dominated fields, not as a guest, but as a force, ready to reshape them with her unique perspective and abilities. This isn't a distant dream; it's the reality we're building, one workshop, one project, one empowered girl at a time.
Over the past six years, LitShop's free school-based and community-based programs have reached over 1000 St Louis youth. LitShop is diverse-by-design; we seek to remove barriers to access so all girls in St Louis are able to participate in our workshops. We are driven by the genius that resides in all our girls; LitShop creates safe, supportive environments where that genius can come to life as girls construct their own learning.
