$3,000 Goal

We have a window of time to conserve some of our area’s most important wildlife habitat and local farms.

Ensure that special places are here for generations to come by donating today - Your gift will help balance development, ensuring that nature is close to home and that our region retains clean water and quiet places over time.

What We Do

We act, advocate, and collaborate for the protection of important places and for community growth strategies that balance a healthy ecosystem and cultural heritage with economic vitality and human well-being.

Land

Land is connected to everyone in southern Illinois – from the food we eat to the places we live and work.

We believe that when we conserve, restore, and steward land, we invest in people’s well-being. We work with private landowners, public agencies, farmers, and community groups to conserve important ecological, agricultural, recreational, and cultural places.

We also “create” places for community enjoyment, such as parks, gardens, and trails.  To date, we have helped conserve and create 10,000 acres of these important places in southern Illinois.

Water

Every living thing depends on clean water. Our region is blessed with tremendous water resources – the Mississippi River, the Kaskaskia River, wetlands, streams, and lakes. The health of the region’s streams, rivers, and lakes is connected to the health of the region’s people and the land.

We work in partnership with public agencies and residents to protect and manage water through green infrastructure, flood and climate adaptation strategies, and healthy watershed initiatives.

Communities

We work within southern Illinois communities in partnership with public agencies and residents to protect and manage water through green infrastructure, flood and climate adaptation strategies, and healthy watershed initiatives.

We work with and assist communities on projects and initiatives focused on parks, trails, planning, mapping, climate adaptation, green infrastructure, community engagement, and many other needs.

We want there to be places for people to connect with nature, conserved farms and wildlife habitat, and improved water quality of our rivers and streams – and thanks to people just like you, we are making strides to make this a reality right here in southern Illinois.

Every dollar you contribute will make a difference year after year as friends, neighbors, and even kids we all have yet to know, will experience the lands you love today. That means more nature, farms, sparkling streams and rivers, and wide open spaces. It means wildlife will thrive rather than struggle to survive.

Because of you, we will save the lands and waters that matter most. Here. In southern Illinois. While there’s still time.

Mission

The mission of HeartLands Conservancy is to empower and collaborate with the people of Southern Illinois to advance and protect the health of our distinctive communities and nationally significant natural and cultural resources.
