City Sewing Room is a nonprofit community sewing center in South St. Louis with a mission to Stitch – Teach – Share. Since 2016, we’ve been a vibrant hub for creativity, teaching 75–100 students weekly and diverting more than 2,600 pounds of fabric from landfills every single week. We put that reclaimed treasure back into the hands of makers for just $2 a pound.
Running a community space is a labor of love, but lately, it’s been a bit of a mess. Between wrestling with our plumbing issues and being closed for 1.5 weeks... we’re in a poopy situation.
Together, we can ensure that City Sewing Room stays functional, dry, and accessible for every maker in our city.
Our $10,000 Goal: Keeping the Creativity (and the Plumbing) Flowing
This Give STL Day, we’re raising $10,000 to ensure City Sewing Room remains a functional, dry, and welcoming home for St. Louis makers. Your support moves our mission forward by keeping class fees low, fabric affordable, and our doors open.
Where Your Gift Goes:
- The "Throne Room" Overhaul ($1,000 Gift): Your $1,000 donation goes directly to our restroom renovation, including the purchase and installation of a brand-new, high-efficiency
Building & Equipment Maintenance: From sewing machine tune-ups to essential pipe repairs, your support handles the "un-glamorous" costs that keep our studio safe.
Sustainability & Outreach: We process over a ton of fabric weekly. Your gift helps cover the operational overhead required to keep the Makers' Mart running and our youth classes accessible to the next generation of sewists.
Accessible Education: Your support keeps the "valves" open for everyone by covering instructor costs and scholarships, ensuring class fees stay low even when maintenance costs run high.
We depend on the generosity of people like you to keep our "system" clear and our community thriving. Support City Sewing Room on May 7th to help us provide a welcoming space where learning is accessible to everyone.
Thank you for helping us Stitch – Teach – Share – and get back into the flow!
