We a publish a double issue of the magazine in April and a single issue in September, which amounts to the work of sixty to eighty writers a year and over four hundred pages of previously unpublished writing.
We are invested in publishing emerging writers and strive to select a variety of work from prominent, mid-career, and beginning writers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds. To further our goal of discovering new talent, Boulevard sponsors two contests for emerging writers-writers who have not yet published a book. Last year was our 22nd annual Short Fiction Contest for Emerging Writers and our 15th annual Poetry Contest for Emerging Poets. The winning pieces are published in the magazine and the authors awarded $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Last year we also introduced the Nonfiction Contest for Emerging Writers, and the winner was awarded $1,000. The prize money is intended both to acknowledge the excellence of the winning pieces and to support the writer's future growth.
Mission
Boulevard is a literary magazine whose mission is to publish the finest in contemporary fiction and poetry as well as definitive essays on the arts and culture, and to publish a diversity of writers who exhibit an original sensibility. It is our conviction that creative and critical work should be presented in a variegated yet coherent ensemble-as a boulevard, which contains in one place the best a community has to offer.
