BIFSTL provides a variety of services contracted through MO Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and MO Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) Adult Brain Injury Program. BIFSTL serves the MO counties of St. Louis, St. Louis City, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin. Services are as follows:
Transitional Home and Community Support (THCS) through DHSS
Assists individuals with brain injury to gain the skills needed for independent living and participation in the community. Supports include budgeting, safety, accessing transportation, participating in community activities, cooking and nutrition, problem solving, and memory strategies.
Prevocational Training (PreVoc) through DHSS
This service uses actual work experience to promote the participant's utilization of behavioral and/or cognitive compensatory strategies in a facility-based or a community site work setting. Specific target goals are identified for interventions such as production rate, inappropriate social behavior, or fatigue that are barriers to direct vocational placement or entry into Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) services.
Supported Employment Long-term Follow Along (LTFA) through DHSS
LTFA is a service that provides continued support and training in an integrated work setting for participants who have completed the Supported Employment Program through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and require additional intervention.
Employment Services Plus for TBI through DVR
Vocational services for individuals who have experienced a brain injury include employment preparedness, job development, and employment retention services such as:
*Identifying and refining realistic vocational goals
*Determining accommodations that will be needed for successful employment
*Preparing for interviews
*Securing a job offer
*Self-advocacy
*Negotiating accommodations
Return to work for individuals with brain injury is a very specialized service we offer through Vocational Rehabilitation that supports individuals in returning to their career after an injury.
Services funded by Wounded Warrior IP Program:
BIFSTL is proud to serve our post-9/11 Veterans who have experienced brain injuries or other neurological injuries. Services support Warriors to increase independence in the community and improve the quality of life for Veterans and their families.
Psychotherapy and Counseling for individuals with Brain Injury and their families
• Provided by a licensed behavioral health professional who specializes in Brain Injury and the unique challenges and features of treatment for those impacted by it.
• Addresses depression, anxiety, behavioral concerns, substance abuse, family dynamics, grief, and co-occurring disorders.
• Group and individual therapy for individuals with brain injury as well as families and caregivers.
Individualized Services
• For individuals who do not qualify for funding through other programs or who have unique goals, BIFSTL staff will tailor a program and goals to meet individual needs on a fee for service basis.
Consultation Services
• Provided by BIFSTL staff and directors to individuals who have experienced brain injury, their families, providers, or educators on matters related to successful living with brain injury.
Brain Injury Training and Professional Development
• The Director of Client Services at BIFSTL is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer through the Academy of Brain Injury Specialists and offers brain injury training for families, groups, schools, organizations, and clinical staff.
