Zenhorse®

A nonprofit organization

Zenhorse® is an equine-assisted nonprofit in the Greater St. Louis area dedicated to partnering humans with formerly wild mustangs—also healing from trauma—to foster emotional healing, resilience, and nervous system regulation.

Working together, healing happens on both ends of the lead rope.

At Zenhorse®, the difference isn’t just in what we offer—
it’s in how deeply we understand the work.

Many equine-assisted programs come from one of two directions:
deep experience with therapy, or deep experience with horses.

What makes Zenhorse® unique is that we bring both—
with depth, training, and lived experience in each.

Our founder was raised in the horse world.
Being with horses isn’t a skillset—it’s a lifelong language.
This intuitive, embodied understanding of equine behavior is paired with advanced education in human development, including master’s degrees in education and counseling, trauma-informed training, and years of immersive study with master-level mentors in equine-guided work.

This matters.

Because meaningful transformation doesn’t happen through surface-level interaction—
it happens when both the human experience and the horse’s experience are fully understood, respected, and skillfully held.

At Zenhorse®, horses are not tools, and people are not projects.
We work in relationship.

This foundation shapes everything we do—from the way sessions are facilitated, to the way our horses are cared for, to the depth of experience participants walk away with.

 A Different Kind of Partnership

Our work is entirely groundwork-based—no riding, no performance.
Instead, we focus on presence, nervous system awareness, and authentic connection.

The horses are active participants, not passive instruments.
Their responses, boundaries, and expressions are honored as part of the process—not managed or overridden.

This creates space for something rare:
honest, immediate feedback that supports deep awareness and change.

Participants often arrive expecting something “horse-related” and leave having experienced something far more meaningful—greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and a felt sense of connection that stays with them long after they leave the ranch.

🌿 Honoring the Whole Experience

We also recognize that healing doesn’t happen only on a cognitive level.

At Zenhorse®, we incorporate body awareness, nervous system regulation, and experiential learning in a grounded and accessible way. For those who are open to it, our work gently includes the spiritual dimension of connection—
to the earth, to the body, to the horses, and to something larger than ourselves.

This is never imposed or defined by doctrine.
It is simply an invitation to experience a deeper sense of presence, meaning, and relationship.

🐎 The Mustangs

Perhaps most uniquely, we partner with mustangs—horses born in the wild.

These horses bring a level of authenticity, sensitivity, and presence that cannot be manufactured.
They are not only part of the healing process—they are also on their own journey.

Through this work, mustangs gain trust, skills, and relational experiences that prepare them for adoption into safe, loving homes.

At the same time, participants experience what it means to be in relationship with a being that cannot be coerced—only met with honesty, presence, and respect.

Healing happens on both ends of the lead rope.

❤️ Why It Matters

In a space where programs can appear similar on the surface,
the depth of training, experience, and philosophy makes all the difference.

At Zenhorse®, we are committed to doing this work with integrity—
for the people we serve,
for the horses we partner with,
and for the transformation that becomes possible when both are truly seen.

When you support Zenhorse®, you are helping to:

  • Provide trauma-informed, relationship-based healing experiences

  • Support mustangs in their transition from survival to connection and purpose

  • Expand access to programs for veterans, women in recovery, and individuals navigating trauma and life transitions

  • Sustain a sanctuary space designed for both human and equine well-being

This is not just equine-assisted work.

This is healing in relationship.

Mission

Zenhorse® exists to create safe, nourishing spaces for both mustangs and humans as they journey through healing, relationship, and restoration.
