Our goal is to make friends.

St. Louis Challenger Baseball is a baseball league for people with developmental disabilities. When we play baseball we don’t count outs, we don’t count runs, all players bat and play the field every inning. We modify the game for the fun of each player. But our goal is to make friends. We encourage our players to make friends with their teammates and other players. And we really want our players and buddies to become friends.

We seek to have a buddy (people who don’t have a disability between the ages of 10 and 25) to be with each of our players. As you may know, our players have all of the characteristics that a person looks for in a friend. Our players are kind, intelligent, have a great sense of humor, care about others before themselves… and so much more. We would like our buddies to understand that our players don’t need you to take care of them (although some may need a little help now and then), but they would love to be your friend. You just have to be yourself and you will have a good friend for life.

Our buddies will discover that they can have a good friend who is different. When they get to know people who are different from them, life opens up in richer, more meaningful ways. Our buddies will have a history of making friends who are different along with the tools and confidence to do it. The person they meet may have a disability, different skin color, follow a different religion, have a different financial background... doesn't matter what the difference is. So the next time they see a person who is different they can make a new friend. All they have to do is say "Hi."
