Parents as Teachers National Center

A nonprofit organization

Parents as Teachers began right here in Missouri with a simple belief: parents and caregivers are their child’s first and most important teachers. four dynamic components of our evidence-based home visiting model

Today, families and caregivers are navigating more complex challenges than ever. From substance use and recovery to housing instability and isolation, many parents are raising young children while managing real and often overwhelming stress.

We partner with them through home visiting, where a trained parent educator meets with them regularly to help navigate the earliest years of their child’s life.

“Parent Educators partner with parents, identifying their strengths. This teaches families which behaviors have the most positive impact on the first three years of their child’s life.” – Tracey Becht, Parent Educator

Through our work alongside families in St. Louis and beyond, we are learning what it takes to support parents and strengthen home visiting everywhere.

Your Support Changes Lives

More than 90% of brain development happens before age five.

During this critical window, the support a parent receives can shape a child’s future.

Home visitors provide that support.

They meet families where they are, offering guidance, connection, and encouragement when it matters most.

Your GiveSTLDay gift helps us continue building the training, tools, and support that home visitors rely on to serve families in St. Louis and far beyond.
