Iron Spike Model Train Museum

A nonprofit organization

The museum, known as Iron Spike Model Train Museum, has been built with the donations of hundreds of train collections, the generosity of supporters, and countless hours of volunteer effort and community support. Daily we provide free admission to active and veteran military members and their immediate dependents. We also honor community service groups on a rotating basis by offering free admission to designated groups (first responders, care givers, grocery workers, etc.) on the first Saturday of the month. Monthly we deliver Operation Lifesaver classes to interested visitors, free of charge. These classes teach railroad and driving safety and are sponsored by Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad. The classes are conducted on the third Saturday of each month, which is the same day we hold our Model Train Market. This is a free outdoor event that attracts shoppers and vendors from a wide area. With the assistance of a local scout leader, we conduct Boy Scout (BSA) railroad merit badge classes on a quarterly bases. Seasonally we offer other free events to engage members of our community and increase awareness of our museum the resource we are to Washington and our surrounding community. We partner with our local Optimist & FFA organizations at Christmas to sell live Christmas trees to benefit their scholarship programs. We donate to community fundraising efforts with Membership Gift Certificates. We assist community members needing to do Community Service. We provide a safe and welcoming environment for all our volunteers, many of whom are seniors looking for a place to belong and be productive.

Mission

Iron Spike, Inc. was established to share the magic of model trains and the history of trains. The museum teaches American History, economics, engineering, safety and art through the use of model trains. The concept of model trains appeals to visitors of all ages.
