$25,000 Goal

Our museum became a reality when a group of men, mostly farmers, sitting in a Greenville, IL coffee shop, talked about the dream of building a museum to preserve the farm heritage. Sixty farmers, collectors, and civic leaders held a meeting to share their ideas with the public in April of 2002. It was agreed that Bond County, being near the middle of the state and right along I-70, would be the perfect place. Meetings were conducted, fundraisers were held, and ideas were passed around. In 2002 the initial piece of land for the museum was acquired and a name for the museum was chosen.

Since that time, many wonderful things have continued to happen thanks to dedicated volunteers and donors. Additional land has been purchased (now at approx. 65 acres), and features currently include the Lil' Red Barn museum building, a one-mile train ride, a model railroad building, a replica of Historic Hill's Fort, a military display and other buildings for equipment storage and events.

Each year, we feature a three-day "Heritage Days" event the last weekend in July to showcase farming activities from 100+ years ago, music, food, crafters, a flea market and all our featured buildings/groups.  Our grounds also host a train show each June, the Hill's Fort Rendezvous each September, Halloweenville activities each October and a drive-through/walk through Christmas display from Thanksgiving to New Year's.

We're supported and managed by volunteers and look to continue to showcase rural America for many generations to come.  Thanks in advance for your support!
