🌱 Growing Power in North County: How A Red Circle Is Cultivating Community, Culture, and Food Sovereignty

In North County, A Red Circle is transforming everyday spaces into hubs of creativity, nourishment, and possibility. At the heart of this movement is a simple belief: when communities have the tools, knowledge, and space to thrive, they do.

At the North County Agricultural Education Center, that vision comes alive daily. Urban farmers gather for hands‑on skill shares, neighbors stop by the farmhouse to learn the art of food preservation, and youth groups explore the land on immersive field trips. It’s a place where learning feels like discovery and where the soil itself becomes a teacher.

Just down the road, the Healthy Flavor Community Garden pulses with life during its monthly free farmers market. In partnership with Zion Traveler’s Missionary Baptist Church’s food pantry, the garden becomes a vibrant marketplace of fresh produce, friendly faces, and essential health resources from partners like BJC and Outreach Rx.

And then there’s the North County Community Nexus — a bold community development project reimagining what local ownership can look like. Soon, it will house a community‑owned grocery store, a commercial kitchen for local food entrepreneurs, and a cozy bistro counter. Outside, the Damu Smith Liberation Garden will host garden classes and demonstrations that reconnect residents with the land and with one another.

This year brings an exciting new addition: the People’s Harvest Pop‑Up. Every Saturday, the space will come alive with butcher‑cut meats, crisp produce, local honey, artisan cheeses, handcrafted spices, BBQ favorites, and more. First Saturdays turn the experience into a mini‑festival, complete with live music, Art in the Garden, a kids’ station, and a lineup of local vendors showcasing their talents.

What makes all of this possible is collaboration. A Red Circle partners with neighbors who have skills, passions, and dreams — people who simply need a place to shine. With the right support, these collaborations don’t just build programs; they build pathways out of poverty and food insecurity for families across North County.

Your support helps fuel this momentum. It nurtures local entrepreneurs, strengthens community bonds, and ensures that North County continues to grow — not just in harvests, but in opportunity.
