Mustard Seed Theatre

For the past 10 years, Mustard Seed Theatre has been producing theatre that explores faith and social justice issues from various cultures and traditions. Whether it is a Judeo-Christian musical like "Godspell," or a Jewish classic like "The Chosen," or a new play by a Muslim playwright "Yasmina's Necklace," Mustard Seed Theatre's focus on faith is not limited to a particular religious tradition. Rather, these plays give audiences a brief but intimate look into cultures and traditions that may not be familiar to them but that highlight our common humanity and search for "God" and meaning.

In addition to explorations of faith, Mustard Seed Theatre also produces plays that explore social/social justice issues like racism, immigration, war, and disability. We produce traditional plays through a faith/social justice lens, little known works, and new plays. In fact, Artistic Director Deanna Jent has written four original plays including "Till We Have Faces," "Imaginary Jesus," "Dance for Life" and her award-winning "Falling" produced off-Broadway and around the world.

It's not enough just to produce plays. Mustard Seed Theatre also strives to provide important context through extensive program notes, lobby slide presentations, talk-backs and special events. We've partnered with The Edison Theatre, Missouri History Museum, Left Bank Books, The New Jewish Theatre and the St. Louis Public Library - just to name a few.

Like the tiniest mustard seed can grow into an enormous bush - the staff and artists that work with Mustard Seed Theatre hope that the stories we tell are the seeds of conversation and understanding that can bring our world together.
