Gifted Resource Council

A nonprofit organization

Gifted Resource Council brings together the resources of the community, the schools and parents to help bright and talented children achieve their potential. Programs for children include Academic Challenge Cup (friendly competitions in the areas of math, language skills and creative problem solving), Saturday Learning Labs and Summer Academies. Parenting Classes, workshops for teachers, and telephone advice assist adults in meeting the needs of gifted children. GRC's goal is to provide support for children and their families to enable young people to enhance their abilities - both academic and interpersonal - and fulfill their potential.

GRC's programs engage over 2,000 students each year with exciting, hands-on learning situations stressing collaboration more than individual learning. Gifted Resource Council programs help children learn HOW to think, rather than teaching WHAT to think. All GRC programs offer bright children the opportunity, often for the first time, to work with other such talented children. Gifted Resource Council instructors emphasize cooperation, teamwork and the process of learning.

Since its founding in 1983, Gifted Resource Council has served bright, talented children through three programs:

•Saturday Learning Labs offer talented children ages 3-14 the opportunity to select from 30+ high-interest courses in art, history, literature, math and science each semester. These 90-minute enrichment activities also enable them to interact with other gifted peers.

•Summer Academies are eleven two-week day camps which offer students an opportunity to be involved in exciting enrichment programs that challenge them to problem-solve while engaging in a stimulating variety of high-interest, hands-on experiences with other gifted peers.

•Academic Challenge Cup involves students in grades 2-8 in three friendly competitions involving creative problem-solving, linguistic challenges and math challenges they would not get in their normal classroom activities.
