Gateway Center For Performing Arts

A nonprofit organization

GCPA seeks to engage young actors in our community within all aspects of the performing arts process, providing them with the opportunity to develop their talents in musical theatre and its individual disciplines. Beyond the valuable performance skills students develop, they also gain important life skills that will help them as they enter into adulthood, such as teamwork, respect, problem-solving, personal responsibility, preparation, and social skills...all of which build their confidence. Youth in our program learn to collaborate alongside peers who come from many diverse backgrounds and ages as they work together telling stories. Alumni from GCPA have used the skills they developed at GCPA to successfully audition and enroll in advanced programs, studying musical theatre, acting, film, and song writing at New York University-Tisch School Of The Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, Boston Conservatory, Indiana University, Elon University, Roosevelt University (Chicago), Belmont University, Oklahoma City University, Baldwin Wallace, and the University of Texas at Austin.

With this Give STL day, our goal is to raise $15,000 in order to support three initiatives:

First, to provide our Show Starters performance troupe their own audio package (including speakers, sound board and corded microphones) for their performance events throughout the community. The Show Starters is a unique performance ensemble for GCPA students that performs for audiences all around St. Louis. Students receive focused training, numerous performance opportunities (including schools, assisted living facilities and artisan festivals, among others), and grow in appreciation for the importance of using song and dance to serve the communities of St. Louis in an impactful way.

Secondly, to cover maintenance, upkeep and expansion costs at our studios in Webster Groves. GCPA completed a large space expansion in 2020, and we have acquired another added studio in 2023. We are committed to continued growth to expand our reach, diversify our student base and serve more and more students in the arts community.

Thirdly, to pay for rigging equipment for our Youth Theatre Company, which will allow us to safely hang and fly set pieces on fly lines at theatres where we perform. We are always striving to increase our production value and the experiences we provide to young artists through our productions. GCPA believes young artists are more than capable of high quality performing arts, and we provide them with the high value opportunities to do so. We hold actors to a high standard and we constantly see them rise to these standards and exceed them.

MORE ABOUT GCPA
GCPA has served the communities of St. Louis for nearly 10 years, providing a wide variety of performing arts programming in a number of different communities. Our home in Webster Groves houses four dance studios, two acting studios, and three voice studios in which we offer classes six days a week in singing, dancing, and acting. Students ages 5 through adult have many opportunities to try new disciplines and broaden their skill sets to meet their goals. We also offer a great spread of summer camps and summer classes. Our Youth Theatre Company produces five full-scale musicals every year, open by audition to actors ages 5-20.
