Gateway Festival Orchestra

A nonprofit organization

Gateway Festival Orchestra programs engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds, including children, their families, teenagers, young adults, the middle-aged and the elderly. Concerts are free, handicapped-accessible, and available to people whose financial restrictions would otherwise make concert attendance impossible. The ability to unite with other people in the enjoyment of beauty is important, and is most readily established in the earliest years of life. Gateway Festival Orchestra's chamber music component brings classical music directly to young children in underserved areas by presenting live performances in these communities. Just as they love hearing stories read aloud, children find joy in the beauty of classical music.

Each summer the Gateway Festival Orchestra features young artists as soloists at its concerts. These young artists are given the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a professional orchestra. In addition we have conducting intern students, who learn about orchestra direction from our Music Director Darwin Aquino.

Mission

The mission of the Gateway Festival Orchestra is to bring quality symphonic and chamber music to the greater St. Louis community, especially to children and youth, the elderly and the disadvantaged, through free public performances. Established in 1964, the 55-piece Orchestra has provided free concerts for 58 years.
