The Fit and Food Connection

Every year, through our Food Assistance & Delivery service component of our Food Access Program, healthy and nutritious groceries are arranged and delivered weekly to close to 400 STL residents. The community members served are low-income families, especially those with small children, seniors and the disabled who live in areas with little to no access to grocery stores or healthy food options. Weekly meals include healthy fresh produce, frozen meat and/or prepared meals, canned and boxed goods, snacks and healthy recipes. Free food preparation classes are also provided.

The Organic Garden component of our Food Access Program provides healthy vegetables, fruits, and herbs to families served by our Food Assistance and Delivery service. The garden also provides healthy snacks to community members in our Wellness Program. Volunteers water, plant, and harvest at the garden as well as lead a Kid's Club which brings together children from the neighborhood to learn about growing food.

Our Wellness Program consisting of 3 components teaches our members healthy eating and exercise habits to help them live healthier, more active lives: 1) The Group Fit component includes quarterly 8-week-long sessions of holistic group classes, 2) our nutrition-focused Group Nutrition Seminars component educates engaged community members on how to shop, prep, and cook healthy food and 3) our One-on-One component helps 20+ people each year with personalized fitness and nutrition consultations, supporting impactful lifestyle changes for the long term. On our community member field trips to grocery stores, our Fit and Food team educates them on how to read nutrition labels and how to look for healthy food. The team also food preps with our community memebers which helps them reach their health goals.
