CharacterPlus

A nonprofit organization

Close your eyes and recall what had the greatest positive impact on your personal character development. If you are like most that answer won't be "what" but "who." And how did that person influence your character? Were they a great role model? Did they act selflessly? Could you trust them? Did they practice compassion and hold themselves responsible? Lastly, are you a better person and find yourself better socially and emotionally equipped in life?

The problem is this: not everyone is fortunate to have that one-person nurture positive character in them. The poor decision-making that often ensues can negatively impact every aspect of society.

Good character takes nurturing. It is not something we can manufacture on our own. And beyond the home, the most influential place we begin to discover and internalize our character is in school. That is why the founders of education in America had it right - developing strong academics AND positive character development in students must hold equal footing in school. Along the way, the latter diminished due to a number of reasons, including the focus shifting to improving test scores. Now, the negative impact of forgoing character education for the advancement of test scores alone can be seen everywhere.

That's where CharacterPlus comes in.

For nearly 35 years, CharacterPlus has worked diligently to correct that imbalance in schools by providing the evidence-based character education processes, programs, and training that create schools, administrators, teachers, and students of character. Our ongoing evidence is clear: when schools prioritize character education, test scores improve, graduation rates increase, negative behaviors decrease, and teachers and students report a greater sense of school belonging.

Think about how a school like this might have significantly impacted your personal character development. Or think about a child whom you hold dear. How might a school like this impact their character development as they grow to become our doctors, police officers, teachers, home builders, or elected officials? The positive impact of a school environment like this will be felt for generations.
