The Bach Society of Saint Louis

A nonprofit organization

The Bach Society of St. Louis is celebrating its 82nd Anniversary as St. Louis' oldest continuous semi-professional chorus. We present at least 6 major concerts each year at unique venues throughout the St. Louis area that aim to appeal to a broad audience. Repertoire ranges from small chamber concerts to large oratorios presented with a 60-voiced chorus, orchestra, and hired, professional soloists. Our concert season also includes the St. Louis Bach Festival, a month-long celebration includes both free and ticketed concerts, collaborations with local arts and cultural organizations and several education and outreach opportunities, including free concerts for middle and high school students from underserved students. When presented with an opportunity, the BSSL also gives smaller performances outside its standard season.

Our most recent season was presented with great success:
A Journey of Voices Concert in October 2022
1 Community Concert in October 2022
Christmas Candlelight Concert in December 2022
Celebration Gala in March 2023
St. Louis Bach Festival with these events:
* Young Artist Showcase
* Bach for Strings
* Community Spring Sing - Choral Classics
* Bach to Black, featuring pianist Dr. Rochelle Sennet
* Bach's St. Matthew Passion

Our education initiatives include:

* The Young Artists Awards have provided opportunities for growth and scholarship assistance for singers since 1989. One previous winner now sings regularly throughout Germany and Italy, another sings with the San Francisco Opera and has appeared at the Met, another performs across the country with significant groups like the American Bach Soloists.

* Finding Your Voice - Voice teachers are sent out to work one-on-one with local high school singers from underserved districts to help them prepare for solo/ensemble competitions, musicals and auditions. Private lessons are offered FREE of charge.

* Vocal Masterclasses - Bach Society guest solo artists serve as masterclass clinicians to give a public voice lesson to young artists in front of an audience of local high school music students. High school students are encouraged to further engage by asking questions and making their own observations about the singers. The Masterclass concludes with 2-3 high school students singing a piece of their own choosing for feedback from the visiting clinician.

* Vocal & Choral Workshops - We provide FREE vocal workshops to local high school choirs, led by a professional educator. Workshop topics include: Healthy Vocal Production, Advanced Vocal Techniques, Contemporary & Commercial Voice Techniques and Choral Excellence.
