Affton Historical Society

A nonprofit organization

Oakland House was built in the 1850's by pioneer banker Louis A. Benoist. Renowned architect, George I. Barnett, designed the country home. Barnett also designed mansions in Lafayette Square and on Vandeventer Place, as well as Henry Shaw's Tower Grove House and the Executive Mansion in Jefferson City. Oakland is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recorded by the Historic American Buildings Survey of the U.S. Department of Interior in the Library of Congress.
