The Youth and Family Center

The Youth and Family Center (YFC) began in 1888 as the Ethical Society of St. Louis serving German and Polish immigrants. In 1909 the Neighborhood House at Nineteenth and O'Fallon Streets was purchased. In 1911 a new association was incorporated under the title "Neighborhood Association". In 1944 the organization relocated to its current location on Twentieth Street where it has remained for 64 years. In 1995 the Board of Directors changed the name to The Youth and Family Center (YFC) to better reflect the services being provided to the community. Programs that the agency offers:
Sickle Cell Awareness-providing awareness and support about Sickle Cell Disease through support group, workshops and community outreach
Teen Outreach-engaging teens with skills such as leadership, volunteerism, college readiness. employee readiness and etiquette
After school-Youth ages 5-13 are offered enrichment programs, homework assistance and a snack and meal
Summer Day camp-9 theme weeks of fun learning, physical and social activities
Senior Program-Seniors 55 and older engage in social interaction through bingo, fun outings, health presentations and more
Sports Program-Youth ages 5-13 are offered sports through baskeyball, t-ball and baseball
Family Assistance-hlidau assistance, food baskets and out of school meals for youth

Mission

To help youth, families, and older adults attain self sustaining lives by providing innovative social educational and recreational resources and to serve as an anchor for the near North Side of St. Louis.
