Science Coach

A nonprofit organization

Science Coach engages ALL public, private and home school students to choose questions of personal interest, create procedures to test hypotheses, arrive at answers with validity, and build confidence in solving real-world problems.

Science Coach values teachers as professionals and know they, because of their role and relationships with students, are a powerful conduit to teach students the scientific process. By intentionally supporting teachers with a comprehensive ecosystem, we help 6th-12th grade students conduct, communicate, and compete successfully with their advanced authentic research projects at national and international levels, and, for some, transform the innovation into a marketable product through our Innovation to Entrepreneurship Pathway. While 89% of Science Coach students continue into STEM pathways, 100% are better equipped to live in an increasingly scientifically literate world.

Science Coach takes the traditional sports team approach and applies it to the STEM arena with an experienced Head Coach sharing and supporting their 5 Teacher Coach team members, each with 10+ students. Students are coached to develop a high-level question/problem to be answered or solved, collect data with current equipment, analyze results, infer appropriate conclusions, and enter the project into juried competitions. By giving students a mix of choice and responsibility, cognitive concepts and practical activities - supported by a caring and trained Teacher Coach - our complete system helps engage students in learning that is rigorous, relevant, and rewarding.

Donating to Science Coach may directly impact the world in which we all live. Your donation allows you to invest in the future of innovation by helping the Science Coach program train, equip, and compensate current and new Teacher Coaches from underrepresented or underserved schools in the St. Louis area, providing opportunity for 60+ students to participate. In turn, this will provide a pipeline of STEM qualified students for the region's future diverse workforce needs. Our vision includes inclusively empowering generations to change the world by: Asking why, Discovering why, Connecting why, and Communicating why. Our economy is stronger when diverse people contribute, so broadening participation is a foundational goal in all our activities, programs, and implementations.

Mission

The Science Coach mission is to support students and teachers to experience the excitement of authentic research. We engage ALL 6th-12th grade students to get the experience of completing a scientifically accurate research project that solves a problem important to them. Working through public, private and home schools to intentionally upgrade research teacher's skills through extensive professional development we provide comprehensive support producing 89% of the students choosing STEM careers.
