Discovery Expedition of St. Charles/Lewis and Clark Boat House

A nonprofit organization

We are an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of America's great explorers, educating the public about our natural heritage and instilling a sense of wonder and adventure in all generations. More than 25,000 visit each year, representing all 50 states and more than 20 countries.

We are an official stop on the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail, are now hosting 500 visitors per week, and are home to the only full-size fleet of fully operational replicas of the boats of the expedition. Our cadre of re-enactors appear at events throughout the Midwest and our boats are true examples of living history.

Mission

The Lewis & Clark Boat House, Museum and Discovery Expedition of St. Charles will provide genuine living history and museum experiences that promote education and the study of our national heritage during the period surrounding the historic Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1803-1806. The organization shall strive to educate all people who visit the Boat House and Museum or any of the organization's historical encampments on the challenges faced by the Corps of Discovery.
