Amnesty International St. Louis

A nonprofit organization

Amnesty International is a non-governmental organization with the mission to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of human rights. In its beginning phase, Amnesty International was no more than a group of distressed activists, writing passionate letters imploring governments to end their abusive actions. Today, Amnesty has become one of the largest and most influential human rights organizations in the world. With Amnesty's work, activists are protected, governments are checked, and human rights more realized.

Amnesty International St. Louis seeks to support the important efforts of its parent organization, bringing local issues to the national group's awareness while simultaneously bringing issues abroad to the citizens of St. Louis. We campaign at local events, write action letters to government leaders, and partner with local organizations to bring a human rights perspective to their work. Some successes this past year include our work in contributing over 300 letters on international "Write for Rights" day that aims to free those wrongfully incarcerated, as well as our presentation at the St. Charles City-County Library on the history of human rights, the #NoBanNoWall campaign, and the impact of human rights violations on the local community.

Mission
