Since the year, 2000, we have provided brand new shoes to youth in the St. Louis region via personal shopping and health fair events. Due to the increase in online shopping, in 2019 we implemented this additional shopping experience. It can be embarrassing for a child especially older kids who do not want to be seen getting shoes from charity and/or their photos taken for public display. The online shopping provides an excellent platform to protect the child's dignity and privacy.
Our health component provides a pamphlet enclosed with every pair of shoes; simple Healthy Feet Tips. The information may always be remembered as they grow into adults and have to someday purchase shoes for their children. The pamphlets are also used as a promotion piece to acknowledge the sponsors/donors who provided the funding for the shoes.
Kids who qualify for our Shoes4Kids program can be identified and referred by school social workers/counselors/teachers, pastors, public housing communities and health departments. Additionally, families can be recruited via community health fairs and Facebook.
The request process is simple which involves completing an online application via our website http://2000feet.org. Approvals are made solely on the availability of funding or shoes in inventory.
2000 Feet focuses on providing a basic need and education tips for healthy feet by addressing the need for new shoes for youth who are from low-income households, under-served, low socio-economically disadvantaged and/or at-risk.
