Wild Ones St. Charles Area Chapter

Thank you for visiting our Wild Ones St. Charles Area Give StL Day Page!

Wild Ones St. Charles Area encompasses St. Charles county, Missouri and the surrounding areas including Warren and Lincoln counties. This local chapter of Wild Ones National  encourages landscaping with native plants in residential, business and public areas.

Adding native plants to our gardens has become increasingly urgent because more land is being developed for housing, agriculture and commercial uses; leaving little for the butterflies, birds, bees and other wildlife. We, as individual homeowners, renters, and neighbors, can do much with a one yard at a time approach to develop our own native landscapes, providing the plants that wildlife depend on for food, shelter and raising young, while at the same time encouraging other’s to do the same.

Here are some of the ways that we support people transforming their outdoor spaces into native habitat:

  • Sponsoring a Winter Speakers Series on topics conducive to appreciating the natural world

  • Hosting Garden Gatherings and tours to inspire people with examples of native plantings

  • Collaborating with nearby chapters and like minded organizations to present pertinent tabling activities

  • Offering consultation services to entities seeking help in planning native gardens

  • Offering bulk plug ordering of natives in the spring

  • Selling individual native plants at several venues each spring or fall

  • Collaborating with other agencies on a “Pear Buyback” program to replace Bradford Pears with a native

  • Directing inquiring agencies or individuals to local resources and services related to the installation of natives in home, business, and organization landscaping

  • Participating with local Parks in “Honeysuckle Hacks”

  • Collaborating with the Missouri Prairie Foundation to award a yearly front yard “Landscape Challenge” Garden $500 worth of native plants to highlight the practicality and beauty of natives

  • Awarding a number of local grants to non-profit entities to use natives in their gardens

  • Encouraging community among our members through in-person and online gatherings.

  • Participating in local events such as fairs, science fairs and festivals that educate the public) to join our community of native Missouri enthusiasts. Join Now!
