Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) is known for its local impact, national presence, and global resonance. We are perhaps best known for producing an annual spring festival season of inventive new productions, but each year, OTSL also introduces the beauty and transformative experience of opera to tens of thousands of students in the St. Louis area and beyond through in-school performances and arts residency programs, camps, dress rehearsals, virtual field trips, and more. These programs empower students by inspiring creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Programs like Trailblazers in Opera, which presents an interactive lesson series spotlighting groundbreaking past and present Black opera singers who blazed the trail both in opera and American history, invite students to experience opera firsthand.
“The students came to me saying they had never felt a full-body connection to music until today. Some of them stated that they wish to
try to pursue this career in the future.” - Hazelwood East High School choir teacher
