About the Northside Movement Center

A Home for Movement is more than a tagline. It ’s a promise.

A promise to create a permanent home in the very communities where we’ve organized for justice. A promise to build a space for the people, where advocacy is accessible and organizing is sustained. A promise to ensure that North St. Louis is not an afterthought, but the center of building power for everyday St. Louisans. 

Located in the heart of North St. Louis, the Northside Movement Center (NMC) will be a home for movement, a vibrant, community-rooted space where advocacy, organizing, and direct service come together under one roof. Anchored by Action St. Louis and ArchCity Defenders, two of the region’s leading justice organizations, the Center will house:

• Community organizing and meeting spaces where residents and grassroot groups can plan, build, and grow together.
• Holistic legal support and direct service to defend and support the people of North St. Louis and the broader St. Louis Community.
• Training and education facilities for leadership development, civic engagement, and movement-building workshops.
•  Public gathering spaces for art, culture, and joy because resistance also requires rest, creativity, and healing.

Our Why

North St. Louis has been the heart of a proud and resilient community for generations, shaping our region's culture, strength, and future.  Yet, decades of disinvestment and displacement have stripped our neighborhoods of the spaces where people gather, organize, and build power together.  

The Northside Movement Center (NMC) will change that. Located in the heart of North St. Louis, this new grassroots community hub will be a place where people find not just resources, but belonging - where advocacy meets action, where legal defense and leadership development happen side-by-side, and where joy and justice share the same home.

Rentable Spaces

Starting in June 2026, we will officially offer our spaces for public renting. There are multiple conference rooms, a co-working space, and event spaces, that will be available. Here are some of the spaces:

Friends of Northside is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit facilitating the capital campaign for the Northside Movement Center, a project anchored by Action St. Louis and ArchCity Defenders. As a charitable foundation, we unite supporters who believe North St. Louis deserves spaces where justice, joy, community care, and people power can grow without limits. 

We are excited to launch the public phase of a three-year capital campaign to build the Northside Movement Center. Support this vision through a one-time gift or a pledge payable through 2027. Your commitment today builds community power for years to come.
